About

PLEASE NOTE: I am particularly interested in getting involved in anything to do with mitigating Climate Change…the BIG challenge of our time. I am more than willing to put my own time and money into a project in this area, if it feels like it will have an impact. If you have any ideas…contact me!

LJ Concepts came into existence in 2003, but I’ve been working in electronics since ’94.

Clients include everything from big corporations such as Panasonic and NXP, down to small start-ups.

I’m something of a generalist, having worked in everything from project management in heavy industry to design in analogue, digital, RF and microwaves fields. Embedded systems have been a recurring theme (hardware and software/firmware), as has design for EMC, and compliance testing. For impedance-constrained multi-layer PCB designs I mainly use Altium (for which I have a current license), but I have also worked with Orcad (license for 16.2 Schematic), Zuken and other packages.

What do I bring to the table? A broad skill-set, years of experience but also flexibility and ease of interaction. Rather than just providing a heads-down engineering resource I try to always keep one eye on the big picture. I like people, and challenges.

I am open about the areas in which I don’t have the skills, and ego doesn’t come into things. There are more important things in life!

My preferred method of operating involves a mix of being based at my own premises and working on the client’s site. I am available to travel, and have spent a significant amount of time in particular in SE Asia, but also the USA, Europe and South Africa. I speak conversational Mandarin Chinese (this has been a hobby of mine ever since my first China-trip back in 2000) and Spanish (although admittedly “Espanol de viajero (solo infinitivos!)”). I am fluent in English and Afrikaans (related to Dutch).

I am constantly looking at ways of applying my knowledge and skills to new areas, and am open to collaboration.

Please contact me here to discuss your requirements.
